Interview by: Mahan Salimian
Kickboxing.com: On behalf of Kickboxing.com and myself I would
like to thank you Mr., Shamrock for taking the time out of your busy
schedule and doing this interview with us, it is greatly appreciated. We
are honored to interview one of the best Martial Artist in the world and
a legend in the Mixed Martial Arts world.
Moving on to some of the questions that every body has been waiting
for.
Kickboxing.com: What would you say is the most important aspect
in the training portion of MMA and why?
Frank Shamrock: The most important aspect in the training portion
of MMA is conditioning and technique. Conditioning is always your best
submission hold and everything is technique.
Kickboxing.com: How do you prepare yourself mentally for a fight?
What goes through your head and what do you focus on mentally in
preparation for fights?
Frank Shamrock: I meditate and I remain consistent in training at
the Academy. What goes through my head is I like to review techniques
and visualize the matches.
Kickboxing.com: How did you feel when you stepped into the ring
the very first time to fight MMA?
Frank Shamrock: I was scared and very nervous because I didn’t
really know how to fight and I was afraid I was going to get hurt.
Kickboxing.com: Many people know you as being a legend and one of
the best in the sport of MMA, what would you say is the most important
aspect in your ground fighting that makes you the best? What do you
focus more on when training your grappling?
Frank Shamrock: I would say it’s my mindset of constantly
attacking and always trying to finish. I focus on the flow- the
continuous change of positions.
Kickboxing.com: Your conditioning is known to be one of the best
and many people in this sport sometimes over train or they do not train
enough, what is your take on becoming a well conditioned fighter?
Frank Shamrock: It takes time to get control of your emotions to
plan a strong training routine. The best routine is to train all the
time or at least at little bit everyday and then to have a six week
training camp before your match.
Kickboxing.com: What does it take to be a MMA fighter in your
eyes? What are the most important aspects?
Frank Shamrock: Discipline, dedication and a good group of
trainers, coaches and partners.
Kickboxing.com: Who is the best pound for pound fighter in the
sport today other than yourself?
Frank Shamrock: BJ Penn.
Kickboxing.com: Who is the worst?
Frank Shamrock: Anybody who doesn’t train.
Kickboxing.com: Who do you want to fight next in your career?
Frank Shamrock: Ken Shamrock.
Kickboxing.com: Who is one guy outside of the MMA sport that you
would want to fight and why?
Frank Shamrock: I’d fight Roy Jones Jr. because he is incredibly
talented at boxing and I like boxing.
Kickboxing.com: Who is one guy outside of the sport that you
would not want to fight and why?
Frank Shamrock: Barrack Obama because he is a brilliant orator
and he would probably crush me.
Kickboxing.com: What are your thoughts on Elite sensation Kimbo
Slice?
Frank Shamrock: He’s big and scary and he’ll loose when he fights
somebody good. He’ll loose because he is learning a lot of techniques
now that he won’t have time to master and his most valuable asset is
brute strength and aggression. So when he fights a good technician he’ll
be caught between aggression and technique.
Kickboxing.com: If you were to fight Renzo Gracie again, what
would be your prediction on the fight?
Frank Shamrock: I would knock Renzo out in the 2nd round.
Kickboxing.com: Who got more girls growing up, you or your
brother Ken and was that a factor when deciding to take the fight?
Frank Shamrock: I got more girls- enough said.
Kickboxing.com: Again I would like to thank you Mr. Frank
Shamrock and we wish you all the best for you and your family in the
future.
Frank Shamrock: Thank you for having me!
