Amin Sabounchi

Biography

Hello, I am Amin and I have been involved in Martial Arts since I was 14. I was born in Tehran, Iran on April 4th 1979. Since I was a kid, I always had fascinations of being a martial artist like Bruce Lee, Van Damme, and of course, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Well, what do you know, here I am today, not only do I learn it and practice it, but I have the privilege to teach it to others.

I come from a conservative and culturally thick family. My father, Ali Akbar Sabounchi, was in the Iranian Air Force for 15 years and worked his way up to becoming a top ranked General. Ever since the Iranian revolution, many families, along with mine, were forced to flee towards west (mainly Germany and France) because of the new regime.

My father retired from the Air Force and started doing import/export and international trade. It was then that we moved to Germany and lived there for 6 years. IN 1991, we moved to Vancouver. My mom, Soudi Sabounchi, has been a homemaker and has rased 3 kids (trust me, it is much harder than it sounds!). i am the youngest of the bunch.

My brother, Afshin, is nine years older than me and he has his own House/Condo/Apartment Development Company. My older sister ARghavan, is married and has a child, Negin. She got her MBA and now does contract work for venture capital firms.

I have lived on my own but I am still financially dependent as I am a fulltime student at the University of British Columbia. I will be graduating May of 2001. I majored in Economics and minored in Commerce. I am hoping to travel Europe and parts of Asia the summer after my graduation. Then I plan on working for a while before I go back to school to attain a Masters in Business Administration.

I have always been athletic. Besides martial arts, I love beach volleyball, basketball, swimming, and lifting weights. Car toys and making music cds have been a favourite hobby of mine.

My favourite color is white for clothes, silver for cars, and black on everything else. My favourite cuisine is Persian of course...no one beats Chef Mom. My favourite movies are "Top Gun" and "Braveheart".

My ambitions and goals in life: I wish to never quit martial arts because of what it has done for me. I want to run my own business someday. I wish to be married and have "some" kids (preferably 4 if the wife agrees). Of course, shall I be successful, I wouldn't mind having a Ferrari parked in the garage. Lastly, I wish I could provide for my children in the future as my parents have provided for me. I am grateful to be healthy and to be constantly surrounded by my friends and loved ones.
